Steamboat Spring’s Rabbit Ears Motel –
Your accommodation for your Colorado summer vacation
Hiking in Steamboat:
Steamboat Springs boasts a quantity of beautiful and accessible hiking trails for its outdoor enthusiasts. The Rabbit Ears Motel sits directly on the Yampa River and the paved 5-mile Core trail that lines it. This trail is great for your morning jog, or gentle enough that the kids won't complain and you won't have to sacrifice scenery. This trail connects the downtown area to the ski area, and via the Gondola visitors can access 30 miles of scenic trails with breath-taking views.
Other popular and accessible locations close to downtown include historic Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain, 10 miles of multi-use trails favorited by locals and appreciated for the range of family-friendly to difficult options - and a local tip goes that Howelson's Howler, or Alpine Slide, is a refreshing way to feel the wind in your hair and cool off after a day hiking in the sun.
Additionally, a few miles out of town takes you to Fish Creek Falls, another popular natural attraction of Steamboat. Walk less than a mile to the viewing bridge to see the 283-foot waterfall in all its splendor. The trail also continues further if you're looking for more activity. Spring Creek is equally close to town, and very family friendly.
If you want to spend all day in the sunshine and nature, remember to pack for a picnic - or go easy on yourself and stop by Backcountry Provisions for a sandwich and "take it to go wrapped specially for your adventures"!
For an after-hike activity, ease into the Old Town Hot Springs across the street for a soak before retreating back to your room at Rabbit Ears Motel!
Some visitors say that Steamboat is even more fun in the Summer! Go fishing out your back door in the Yampa River, one of the premier fly fishing spots in the state.
Relax in the natural hot springs, work out in the fully equipped weight facility, kids and adults enjoy the excitement of the twisting water slide, or get a soothing massage at the Steamboat Springs Hot Springs and Health Club, just across the street from the motel.
Bask in the sun as you take a lazy tube float down the Yampa River. Steamboat rightfully lays claim to some of the most beautiful scenery. In addition to world-class mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and golfing, Steamboat offers unique dining and entertainment for all to enjoy. On Friday and Saturday nights professional cowboys and cowgirls compete in the Pro Rodeo Series, enjoy the BBQ dinner and pre-rodeo live entertainment.
All these activities and more are within walking distance or a short, free bus ride. Come and visit this summer for the time of your life.
